Walk into the paint department in any big box store and prepare to be overwhelmed. Standing under garish overhead lighting with paint cans stacked from floor to ceiling, you scan the multiple exhibits of color chips, brochures, paint, primer, brushes, rollers and other sundry paint supplies. It can be confusing!

A guy from the plumbing department saunters over and tries to give you his best advice. Feeling less confident than when you walked into the store, you head straight for the door, discouraged by all of the decisions to be made.

What do you do?

Get back your car and drive over to your local Shelby Paint & Decorating store where you will find certified color-trained designers to help you with every phase of your design project.

It’s the Shelby Paint advantage.

We believe that our customers deserve the very best in product, service and value. That’s why we invest in training for all of our designers.

Let’s meet two of them.

Meet Tim Hay – Shelby Township

tim hay shelby paintTim Hay is a unique designer who isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty.  Tim started painting with his father in high school and went to work for Hallmark Paint & Wallpaper in 1982.  Tim has worked for Shelby Paint since 1998.  Since then he has earned numerous manufacturer certifications from Hunter Douglas, York Wallcovering, and Graber Blinds.   Tim is also a certified Benjamin Moore color consultant and has performed hundreds of in-home consultations over the years.

As a design consultant, Tim’s favorite part of his job is “creating something out of nothing.”  He loves today’s wallpapers because they are versatile and can make a bigger impact in a room than paint.

Is there a design trend that Tim is happy to see go?  Yes…wallpaper and borders in combination!

Meet Rachel Walrath- Rochester Hills

rachel walrath shelby paintRachel is the newest designer on our team and comes to us with a lot of experience.

When it comes to design, Rachel is drawn to paint colors. Her favorite part of the job is watching her customers’ faces light up when she’s helped them perfect paint color for their project. Helping customers determine if they want a warm or cool color or matching fabric or wallpaper, Rachel has always had a knack for color and design.

Rachel has been enrolled in Oakland Community College’s Interior Design program since 2014 where she has worked on residential and commercial projects. She joined our team in March 2016 and is now certified as a Benjamin Moore color consultant and certified with Hunter Douglas blinds too.

There is something unique to know about Rachel.  She speaks fluent French. How do you say, “Is this the right paint color for me?” in French?

On your next design project, choose the Shelby Paint & Decorating advantage. We have certified consultants in all three of our stores which is why we say, “we are a source of a different color.”
